Building services team visits Te Unua Museum of Southland

As work at Te Unua Museum of Southland continues, Invercargill City Council’s Building Services team got a first-hand look at its progress.

The team recently headed to site to learn more about large-scale commercial developments, getting an up-close and personal view of its construction.

Council’s Building Services team leader Sarah Abrey said the visit was an interesting insight into the project.

“Typically, our team specialises in residential builds. While the building and consent process for those – versus large-scale commercial developments such as Te Unua Museum of Southland – has some parallels, there are definitely some distinct differences,” she said.

The Council team met with lead contractors Naylor Love, whose project and site management staff walked them through key aspects of the development: including their design and build methodology, quality assurance systems, and the building consent process.

“Being able to get on-site at the museum gave us a great insight into the modern systems and innovative construction techniques the Naylor Love team is applying to a really significant project taking shape in our city.
