The build of our regional museum collections storage facility at Tisbury was officially completed this month
The facility was gifted the name Te Pātaka Taoka Southern Regional Collections Facility by Waihōpai Rūnaka
The anchor from the former Southland Museum and Art Gallery has also been moved to the site
The 1650m2, state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in Southland
Contractor Calder Stewart arrived on-site at the Queens Park animal reserve - the future home of our specialist tuatara enclosure
Calder Stewart began early site works, to enable construction to begin in the new year
Among the early works, the contractor felled some trees and started putting down piling
New storytelling signage has been installed around the construction site of the new museum
The signage has been installed at several viewing spots, where the public can keep an eye on progress as the project continues
Each storytelling sign reflects key information relating to that location - for example, this sign overlooks where the outdoor amphitheatre will be constructed
Like Te Unua Museum of Southland itself, the storytelling signage has been written and designed to appeal to all ages
